The only alternative I could see would be to do something like U.S. War Machine, where it's an alternate universe that's much lower-tech and lacking in magic. And even then, you're using a character who's history is so tied into Iron Man, that to do him in a solo setting bereft of Iron Man and Marvel would require drastic enough changes to make it more productive to just come up with a new character.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17773416732192167277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5169626575812155292.post-2674509343314763892010-04-03T19:50:31.291-07:002010-04-03T19:50:31.291-07:00The problem with trying to make a War Machine seri...The problem with trying to make a War Machine series that looks at real-world conflicts (or obvious analogues for them) is that War Machine's enemies would need to have some kind of powers or super-tech to be able to be a threat to the main character. If it was like Punisher and they were just normal thugs, it might make the realism angle less awkward, but it'd also make Rhodey able to take out basically all of his enemies within a single page. I'm not saying I can think of any better alternatives, other than just not having a comic about War Machine trying to tackle real-world issues; it's something of a Catch-22 really.A Dog Jayhttp://www.google.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5169626575812155292.post-43265511516254803992010-04-03T09:39:34.597-07:002010-04-03T09:39:34.597-07:00Fortunately, the series ended with Rhodey getting ...Fortunately, the series ended with Rhodey getting his mind transferred to a healthy, non-mutilated cloned body, and he looked like he normally does when he appeared to help reboot Tony Stark's brain.

One thing I forgot to mention in the review which was similarly obnoxious to the rest of the series was Rhodey's " magno-lock " power, where he could pull off parts from any machine and add to his own body. Already it was an overused deus ex machina, but that he could somehow use, say, a motorcycle to help replace parts from a Stark-designed war suit is a bit ludicrous even by comic standards.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17773416732192167277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5169626575812155292.post-62708751690094661452010-04-02T23:40:10.262-07:002010-04-02T23:40:10.262-07:00War Machine is one of those characters that I'...War Machine is one of those characters that I've liked, but couldn't tell you much about beyond the basics. It seems that a lot of my non-comic friends are in the same category: they know he's Jim Rhodes, and they're excited for him to be in IM2, and...that's about it.

I was a bit disturbed to see Jim's a total cyborg now, though; wonder if that will be undone in the wake of the new film.E.
